Alfred de Grazia atliberation of Dachau concentration camp 1944

On April 29, 1945, the concentration of camp of Dachau was liberated by the Allies. Alfred de Grazia, as an intelligence officer, was on the spot the following day. In memory of the camps that were liberated between January and April 1945, we are bringing a translation of Joseph Bialot's account of the liberation of the death camp at Auschwitz.

  • Livia, David, San Savino

Livia, Jill and Alfred de Grazia's grand-daughter, married David on June 28th, 2015 in Monte San Savino, Tuscany.

On the eve of their wedding-day, Livia and David laid down a wreathe on the stele commemorating the assassination of Livia's paternal grandfather, Dr Gastone Paggi, (age 37) and her great-grandfather, Prof. Carlo Morfini, (age 79) together with 242 other inhabitants of the village of Civitella in Val di Chiana and of two nearby hamlets, on June 29th, 1944, in a war crime perpetrated by units of the German Wehrmacht's Hermann Goering Division. Gastone was killed before the eyes of his family. Livia's father, Leonardo (picture) was then one year old. Literally thousands of villages have been martyrized in this way in World War II by the German Nazi forces in Italy, Greece, Serbia, Poland, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, France...
